Blue plaques have been a part of English tourism and heritage for over 100 years providing tourists and the public with important information about significant people who have lived in a particular location. These special plaques create a link between the location they’re placed and the person they’re commemorating.
They include information such as name, birth and death date, occupation/service, and the length of time spent living in the plaque’s location. Blue plaques are a way of celebrating a recognised person for their contribution to their profession.
There are blue plaque schemes across the world but The London Blue Plaques Scheme is one of the oldest, having been established for over 140 years. It is administered by English Heritage, with the help of town and city councils who recognise the need for their local heritage to be acknowledged and commemorated through blue plaques.
They not only commemorate the significant people who reside in our towns and cities, they tell their story in a unique way and bring them to life. Blue plaques serve an important purpose in our society, to tell history right in the place that it unfolded.
English Heritage protect and celebrate buildings and sites in a number of ways, one of which is through blue plaques. Here at Photocast, we’ve worked with many heritage groups, including English Heritage, as we manufacture many etched and cast plaques. We have created many plaques for some of England’s great locations, telling a historic story in a unique way. Although we manufacture traditional blue plaques, we can also create them in a range of colours to uniquely represent your project.
